My last post on plumbing-based sprinklers included a floor plan of a home-run plumbing system. As I noted, the same pipe can also serve sprinklers. The following drawing is the floor plan for the additional pipe needed for the sprinkelrs. Download EB sprinkler portion, no plumbing In this home, the plumbing pipe accounts for 40 percent of the sprinkler system. I also pointed out how the savings in parts and labor is reducing the cost of sprinklers to well under $1.00 per square foot. I can document costs of as low as 50 cents per square foot for the sprinkler portion of plumbing-based sprinklers.
The following link shows the sprinkler portion of the system. You will note that a dozen of the 4-port sprinkler fittings have only three connections. That is because the plumbing portion will be used to connect them to the manifold. My next post will show the complete system supplying each plumbing fixture and sprinklers.
Installation of sprinklers should be accompanied by safety trade-offs that offset costs and incentivize their use. Residential fire sprinklers are a safety feature that works.
